How research works

The Technology strategy card is the main way to research. Its primary ability researches 1 technology for free, then a second for 6 resources. Every other player may follow with its secondary: spend 1 strategy token and 4 resources to research 1.
Prerequisites are the coloured dots. To research a technology you must already own that many technologies of each colour. Unit upgrades have prerequisites but no colour of their own, so they never count toward anything.
Technology specialties on some planets can stand in for one prerequisite of their colour when you exhaust the planet.
You start with the technologies on your faction sheet, and every faction has 2 faction technologies only it can research.
Exhaust technologies (cards that say “exhaust this card”) ready again in the status phase.
Plan a path. Pick one or two colours and climb them. The tree below shows each colour by how many prerequisites a technology needs; click any technology to read its card.
